In
July 2000, after more than 21 years of
award-winning
programs and a listening audience
estimated as high as 60,000, the Jewish Scene broadcasts
ended. Later that year a
project to preserve them began.
More than 1,000 broadcasts would be
inventoried and transferred from
tape reels and cassettes to compact
disks (CDs) and stored in the Jewish
Archives of the Western Reserve
Historical Society.
The WRHS has done its job. Now, ten years later,
it's time for others to step forward
and
let us hear the Jewish Scene
broadcasts again.
These programs could inform and
entertain a new generation of
listeners. Their old audience would
also welcome the chance to enjoy
them again.
Fortunately today's technology offers many
low cost ways to do this, such as:
-
listening to
segments with earphones at
a kiosk in the
Maltz Museum,
-
listening online to audio segments available on
the Internet,
-
getting CDs on the shelves of
synagogue and public libraries,
and
-
selling CDs where other Judaica
can be purchased.
Near-term, these pages hope to
encourage and report on progress in sharing
the "Scene." Long-term, our goal is
to see this website evolve into one
that tells its visitors about the
many ways they can enjoy the Jewish
Scene broadcasts. ●
